We are Nicola French Doyle and Shelly Keeys aka Taking the Plunge or The Plunge Girls
When we set up our great little shop four years ago, we wanted it to have a definite personality, selling unique gifts in an unusual setting. We both have a passion for 20th century design, especially all things kitsch, and this is reflected in the products we buy and in the way we sell them. We will often have an original Ladybird book or 1950s black cat displayed alongside our gifts on our old G-Plan unit (like the one Granny used to have).
Our other passion is Whitstable, the town that we live in. We are located right at its heart and have quickly become its favourite gift shop. We have a loyal band of customers that "go to The Plunge first" because we "always have new and unusual things". In fact the girlies in Whitstable tell their partners to get them "anything from Taking the Plunge" for Christmas and birthdays because they love it all!
We love chatting and getting to know our customers, offering a personal shopping experience or simply telling them what they want to know about Whitstable.
We have a wonderful team who work with us, Daphne and Linda who work every day from 3.00 to 5.00 (while we do kid stuff) and Helen who works for us on Sundays. For those of you who love all things knitted, come and talk to our resident expert Linda on a Monday, Tuesday or Friday. You may even meet our dogs Ron and Millie, the other valued members of our team.
We hope that our website reflects the quirky nature of our high street shop, as it is a little different too. If you have any queries at all, please pick up the phone (we really do like the personal touch) or email us and we will do our best to help.
